Confidence in the Creative Spirit

No man has the right to dictate what other men should perceive, create or produce, but all should be encouraged to reveal themselves, their perceptions and emotions, and to build confidence in the creative spirit. Ansel Adams

Each of us views the world through a unique looking glass. Our physical senses experience the world directly, but these signals are not truly actualized until they are perceived by the mind. It was Aldous Huxley who said, There are things known and there are things unknown, and in between are the doors of perception. And so our experiencing of the world is a reflection of how we appreciate and understand the world to be. Our knowing mind generates the divine energy of understanding.

For example, to my mind, the shadow cast by this chunk of driftwood is a coiled dragon with its head lifted in the air. I often see hidden shapes within the commonplace. Harnessing the power of your inner world will allow you to alter your course forward. Tune out greedy corporate drivel and shiny objects dangled by so-called celebrities. There are so many better portals to open than the worn out ones of the past. As Schopenhauer said, Every man takes the limits of his own field of vision for the limits of the world. We are fortunate to have the nearly limitless landscape of the Internet to roam in search of entertainment and enlightenment.

Just as everyone needs to strengthen their immune system, now is the time to build confidence in the creative spirit. I remember my first experience with the Internet, back in the late 1970s. The first thing we did was play a game, but that was balanced by the potential for learning. I used one of the first networked learning systems called PLATO via UIUC. I saw it as an electronic library of incredible potential. Later, I worked on the first internet pages for education in my home state. I then taught teach teachers how to introduced technology into their classrooms for the university. After seeing the power of multimedia computers, I bought my first computer because of the interactive Encarta encyclopedia so my kids could learn in more interesting ways. That all seems quaint now compared with terrabyte storage units and streaming media, but in the end it is all just more ones and zeroes.

Now is the time to build up your confidence in your creative spirit. This does not have to be through art necessarily, but creative ways to experience your life from now on. You can find instructions in any thing you’d like to learn. Reveal your true self during these times of troubles and begin to bloom. Peace and Happiness to you all.
