The Flow of the Tao

Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don’t resist them; that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like. – LaoZi

Every day is an opportunity for change. Upon waking, we shed our dreams and greet the day. All that the day offers is potentially unbounded. And our responses to the day’s significance are self-determined. Broadening perspective enriches the panorama of being. As Gertrude Stein once wrote, You attract what you need like a lover. Love your life. Abandon self-defeating reflexes. Shuffle off the dark cloak of self-recrimination and Transform.

Our artificial world is an interlocking lattice of illusions. Our self-delusions narrow our thoughts and restrict our lives to a limited space. Irrational emotions are summoned like genies to magically alter what is Real. Taking time in nature allows us to work through the layers of illusions that restrain our spirit. By wandering through nature, we throw open the windows of our heart and illuminate what is truly real. Free from fraud and fakery the natural world is a soul-sanctuary from the manufactured domains.

Eroded mountains and shattered continents become a gray seascape from a distance, just as most days long past dim into nondescript shades. But through self-exploration we can discover the true quintessence of life sparkling within. As we slowly leave behind the wrongheaded prejudices, untruths, and attitudes, life’s true meanings brighten each day. Holding fast to what we believe is unchangeable shackles reality to conceit. Release your grip on the binding chains holding your spirit back.

There will always be storms on the horizon, but we must bend with the circumstances. According to an ancient Taoist saying, the bamboo that bends is stronger than the oak which resists. Turn to nature and fortify yourself naturally. Live in accordance with nature and decrease your suffering from anxiety, worry, and self-doubt. Let reality flow as it will. Find peace.
